Aya Sofia and the Blue Mosque

These pictures were taken close to Aya Sofia and the Blue (Sultanahmet) Mosque. It is basically the center of tourism in Istanbul. The square and area around the fountain are full of people, salesmen selling fresh pomegranate and orange juice, grilled corn on the cob, the sesame seed "simit" rings and many other treats as well as offering services such as shoe shine and to be your personal tour guide....The aggressive sales tactics could become very tiresome and many of the salesmen even speak several languages....One shoe shine guy came up to us while we were sitting on a bench near the fountain and starting setting his tools up to shine Luis' shoes, telling him all the while in Spanish that his shoes were dirty, that they needed to be shined and that if Luis didn't have the money now, he would do it as a gift and Luis would be free to pay him tomorrow!
